Our Story
Joe and I met at Virginia Tech in 2005, shortly before Joe graduated. That summer, I went to work in Grand Tetons National Park and Joe embarked on his cross-Atlantic sailing venture, but we stayed in touch. Early in 2006, I joined him on the sailing trip for two months of Caribbean exploring. It was great fun, and we decided that if we could handle living on a tiny sailboat for two months and still like each other, we should probably get married.
On May 16, 2006 we attempted a psuedo-elopement to the Christianburg courthouse, but were tracked down by my sister and several friends bearing flowers, cake, music and other traditional wedding trappings. We followed up our nuptials with several parties to celebrate with friends and family...and we all lived happily ever after.
Our time on the sailboat has served us well as we now live in an equally tiny house and still like each other. We share our tiny universe with two hound dogs, a cat, and some other barnyard animals.
Biographical Information
Joe, despite his current mountain-man identity, is actually a beach bum from Virginia Beach, where his family owns and runs Wareing's Gym. Now that he lives in the country, Joe loves to be dirty. The dirtier the better. Actually, the reason Joe is so dirty is because he's always working hard on some project or another - such as building an earth oven, putting up a garden fence, or building a tiny house for his mom. These are all really fun, but very dirty, projects.
Joe is very passionate about pizza - a passion which has been rekindled by the earth oven. The earth oven has also created a new passion for Joe - bread baking! When not baking pizza & bread, or getting dirty, Joe enjoys watching movies, listening to music, harassing Wilson (with whom he is deeply in love), and collecting 5-gallon buckets from local bakeries. There is an endless list of uses for 5-gallon buckets. He can be contacted at joewareing@gmail.com
Amanda has no alternate identity and is, in fact, a country bumpkin. She even occasionally puts on a old-timey dress and goes dancing with the Hoorah Cloggers of Blacksburg, Virginia. When not dancing, Amanda works three days a week on a farm, works on super fun projects at her own farm, and cleans up after the three boys she shares a tiny house with.
Many people are surprised to learn that Amanda was homeschooled as she seems to be of average intelligence, well traveled, and able to conduct herself nicely in social situations. She comes from a big family of many sisters, a brother and an ever increasing lot of nieces and nephews, among others. She can be contacted at missamandabeth@gmail.com
